Oondhiyu 01 by Dr Vivek M.
Oondhiyu is another winter specialty of Gujarat. Family and friends are invited to 'Oondhiyu parties' at farm houses where the ritual is like this: A mixture of potatoes, purple yam, raw banana, sweet potatoes, brinjals and a kind of a bean are stuffed into an earthen pot and sealed. The pot in then buried upside down, covered in hay which is then set fire. This Oondhiyu is called 'Matla Oondhiyu' (Matla: pot). After the pot is sufficient cooked, the ingredients look like this.
