Batek tribe living in the oldest rainforest

Orang Asli simply means "Original people" in Malay Language. The Orang Asli, who continue to live in a nomadic lifestyle in the oldest rainforest of the world, the Taman Negara, call themselves Batek.

Today I saw a photo from Gary Isaac and reminds me of this image from my archive which was taken deep inside the rainforest of the Tamar Negara. The mother with child was just as surprised as I was.

Als je zo'n foto ziet, heb je plotseling nogal wat om over na te denken. Leven wij zoveel beter als zij doen? Mischien rijker (materialistisch gezien) maar verder lopen we maar wat rond achter niet zo belangrijke dingen. Hebben niet veel verstand van de natuur meer. truly beautiful. the sitter and the photographer in the same position, staring at each other. i wonder how you looked like when you faced this woman and her child. your portraits are always incredibly humanised and that's what makes them so contemporary and so different from the 19th century 1st attempts of portraying other cultures. always a pleasure to see your images.
