Portofino a village of rare beauty
Portofino is a small Italian fishing village, comune and tourist resort located in the province of Genoa on the Italian Riviera. The town crowded round its small harbour is considered to be among the most beautiful Mediterranean ports. Portofino was founded by the Romans and named Portus Delphini, or Port of the Dolphin, because of the large number of dolphins that inhabited the Tigullian Gulf. Portofino has even been recreated in detail around the harbor at Tokyo DisneySea in Chiba, Japan, and to a much lesser extent, the Portofino Bay Resort at Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, USA.
Portofino's beautiful bay and top hotels, attracts the rich and famous. Hollywood stars such as George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Meg Ryan, Barbra Streisand, Robert De Niro and Denzel Washington often come in the summer - as well as millionaires, moguls and models from all over the world. From around Easter to late autumn, day trippers also flock to the resort, to soak up its exclusive atmosphere.
Portofino is een kleine Italiaanse plaats aan de Italiaanse Rivièra, in de provincie Genua. Het haventje van de Portofino wordt gezien als een van de mooiste aan de Middellandse Zee. Een replica van het stadje is te zien in Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando (Florida). De stad zou zijn gesticht door de Romeinen met de naam Portus Delphini, of stad van de dolfijnen, vanwege de grote aantallen dolfijnen die de Golf bevolkten. Het bergachtige schiereiland waarop Portofino gelegen is heeft de status van regionaal natuurpark. De Monte di Portofino is met zijn 612 meter de hoogste top.

I'm greatly thankful to you for this beautiful image and a very lucid introduction of Portofino. It is truly meaningful to the global viewers to enjoy beauty of a present day travel spot with an appendage of its historical anecdote. I feel really enthused to get a view of Portofino--a natural harbour of even pre-roman Liguria--that had its cultural enrichment through spontaneous contributions from different societies, ranging from Liguria, Roman or Sardinian and definitely of French for a brief period.
The presentation has touched me for true appreciation of the place, its people and its heritage. In that way, this image speaks more of what it captures through the lense.
So, it's my fave, Ben!
