"Does that really work?"

"Does that really work?" by ~Haggis~.
These young men were enjoying a nice day in downtown Raleigh in front of the Marbles museum at Moore's Square. I was sitting on the front steps setting up my camera when they stopped and asked if my camera really worked. They asked if I could take their photograph, and I happily obliged.

They were very nice and patient with me. This camera takes a little while to set up. There is no internal metering so I had to meter it, then manually set the flash to give just enough fill to slightly diminish the shadows on their faces. I did give them my business card and told them to check back in a couple of weeks, so hopefully they get to see this now that my film scanner is here.

and no mention of said scanner in the tags?
you know.... back in the day... oh never mind; i'll spare you the geezer footnote.
I wonder why they asked if it actually worked; interesting question... maybe just a lead-in, eh? It looks like you had some nice fill off buildings, too?

Well the camera looks very antiquated, and is probably a real curiosity to anyone who isn't "into" photography. It definitely acts as a social lubricant wherever I take it.

I'd like to spend more time outdoors with it getting the hang of it. I definitely have a bit of a learning curve ahead of me getting the fill flash balanced properly against ambient light. I suppose that E-TTL on the Canon DSLR spoiled me in that respect.

The scanner is an Epson V500.
