Goose/Geese Facts:
Made for Water: As part of the waterfowl or wildfowl group, geese are made for the water. Except for the Cape Barren goose, which has adapted to be more of a landlubber, most geese have webbed feet, a streamlined body and thick plumage, which makes them extremely buoyant.
Goose Lifestyle: Geese are medium to large birds and migrate long distances from overwintering sites to breeding grounds. All geese eat a vegetarian diet, feeding on grasses, seeds and grains.
Mates for Life: Geese usually mate for life, though a small number will separate and find another mate. A smaller number of eggs are laid each season and both parents protect the nest and young, which usually results in a higher survival rate for the young geese.
