Another old photo of New Richmond

Another old photo of New Richmond

Train 406 has stopped traffic briefly on Knowles Avenue in New Richmond as it rolls east across the Minneapolis Sub. The garland is up on the lightpoles for the holidays but there is no sign of snow yet. On the west side of the street past the tracks the old Conoco station and the feed mill can be seen, these both would be razed when the whole block was later redeveloped. Huey's and Kelleher's, the bars next to opposite sides of the tracks, east of Knowles Ave. continue to do business.

Birthday Train

Birthday Train

On the day I turned 29 I was rewarded with this westbound coke empty, with pooled power on the coke runs the locomotive could be SOO, CP, WC or CN. A brush cutter rests on the team track. May 27, 2002.

Coal loads, coke empties

Coal loads, coke empties

AC6044CW 7034 takes a Weston coal load east through New Richmond on a fine spring morning. There is an SD45 tucked in behind the UP motors. These trains would pick up an extra unit anywhere between New Brighton and CF Yard in order to get the coal train up Boyd Hill east of Cadott, then often drop the "kicker" off at Withee. The SSAM hopper is part of an empty coke set staged at New Richmond until CP is ready to recieve the train at Cardigan Jct. for forwarding to Rosemont. May 10, 2002.

Approaching High Iron

Approaching High Iron

WC 7517 west rolls into Ladysmith off the Bradley Sub on a fine February morning. In a couple blocks this E rail empty will make the right turn onto the high iron of the Superior Sub for the run back to the iron range. February 17, 2002.

Cold night in a hot spot

Cold night in a hot spot

It's a frigid night in Prentice, WI and three trains are laying over. In foreground is a GP40 that lead the run down from Mellen. The WC SD45 brought a train up from Wausau and the CN SD40-2 ran light into Prentice after parking the rest of a Minorca empty at Brantwood siding east of Prentice. Ten years later it looks a little more like a museum photo session. February 16, 2002.
