A glimpseI own a lot of kids' books and I also keep those that are the Kid's and that he's too old for. Drug-related. A small glimpse at a wider collection. Animal-related. Gasp! a hole! Poetry. Theatre. An empty cover like that means the book has been lent to my best friend. My trick is never to read the book with the removable cover on, so it stays nice and purty. Here are our books by Hunter Thompson, Carlos Castaneda, Richard Bach and Douglas Coupland. When Herb and I met we both had lots of Castaneda, but not one duplicate! To the right is my bookcase packed with scifi and fantasy. Language-related. Kids' books. Les Rois maudits. A series of unfortunate events. I love these bookcases because they're only 9 inches deep. I hate the standard 12 inches that force me to dust the shelves more. I almost cried when I was done making those extra shelves and realized that even with those I couldn't fit all my books in. Yeah, I'm crazy. Zola's correspondence. Gawd after the ordeal it was to get those - 15$ each at a used bookstore when the books are worth 100$+ each, you'd think I would have read them. The Cat's House (dreamy) and Cat condominiums (still looking for help on making a few of those). I hate packing books horizontally on top of others, but I'm out of room and I only got those books (donated) recently. Les mauvaises herbes du Canada - super up to date: re-print in 1963! ![]() This is a part of my personal library. About half of what's on that wall, excluding what's in the dining room and around my desk. I had to make the extra top shelves with 2 by 4s and wood because everything is overflowing and there's nothing that makes me as unhappy as having to double shelf books. (No really - it'll haunt me at night.)

I'm really anal about my books. Really really really. I lend them to about only three people, two of whom live with me so I can check the state of my books at any point. I used to know the exact location of every book but now I have a little too many. Still, I can usually find any one book easily. What bothers me right now is that there's stuff (guitars, a little table, a chair) in front of the bookcases (below the pic) and I can't see all of my books at once. Bother. I have no proof of it, but I think my wall of books made the foundation of the little house we used to rent shift a little. Oopsie. I evaluate that I've read over half of the books I have. Perhaps a bit more. But hey - I have a whole life ahead of me:-) Another thing I hate is having stuff in front of the books - picture frames, gizmos, etc. I can't stand it. Commentsvieux bandit
