Dr. William A. Wells Dies in Washington, DC - December, 1958
DR. WILLIAM A. WELLS, JR., of Washington, D.C.,
died on December 19, 1958 at the age of 85. Dr. Wells
was born in Washington, June 28, 1873, and attended
elementary school in Chicago, Illinois, later moving to
Hudson, Wisconsin, where he entered high school. He
returned to Washington and graduated from M Street
High School in 1892 as valedictorian of his class. Dr.
Wells earned four professional degrees from Howard University.
He received the LL.B. in 1897, the LL.M. in 1898,
the Ph.C. in 1903 and the M.D. in 1907. Following his
graduation in medicine he served Howard as assistant professor
of pathology for ten years, when he resigned to
enter full time private practice. At the time of his death
he was mayor of Highland Beach, a summer colony on
Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Lillian A. Wells.
