Charles/BigNastyWeather invited me to go with him to Larch Mtn for some star trail shooting.
Inspired by similar recent shots by Larry/Bobshots and Dar/Starlisa on the way down we walked by the picnic area where the picnic tables provided both some sky surrounded by trees and a convenient place to lay the camera down on its backside for some star field with trees photography.
I really liked how the light on lower branches cast shadows on the ones above, and how that coupled with the natural fall off of light with distance added some wonderful depth cues to the image.
After doing a few shots with light painting with just red or blue/white LED flashlights, Charles suggested trying both in one shot; here I did the fainter red light at the bottom/periphery of the shot and Charles did the higher portion of the trees with the brighter blue/white flashlight. Thanks Charles for the great suggestion, collaboration, and the very fun night out shooting.
Count the stars large on black. Except for cropping, downsizing, and a touch of sharpening this is essentially straight out of camera. N20541 - Happy Starry Saturdays!
