The United States Marine Band, also known as "The President's Own", is America's oldest professional musical organization. It was founded by an Act of Congress in 1798.

John Philip Sousa (nicknamed the "March King") headed the US Marine Band for 12 years starting in 1880. He made the band famous, composing classic marches, like the "Stars and Stripes Forever".
