Farewell to summer.

John Langley was born in St. Catherines, Ontario; he received his Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of Toronto on trombone. While a music student, he worked with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra and, after graduating, with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and the Stratford Festival. Subsequently, John was, for 11 years, Bass Trombonist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

He retired from professional music to obtain his MD and psychiatry specialty. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, and also a Staff Psychiatrist in the Department of Psychiatry of St. Michael’s Hospital. He is the Acting Head and the Director of Postgraduate Education for the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Langley has a strong interest in community and adolescent psychiatry and has worked with street-involved youth for many years. He provides psychiatric consultation to several inner city agencies including Covenant House, the Youth Hostel Outreach Program, Central Toronto Youth Services, and the New Outlook Youth Justice Program. He is also the medical director of the STEPS for Youth program at St. Michael's Hospital, a program for early intervention in psychosis.
