Test - Shooting to the Right

Test - Shooting to the Right

This was an experiment I did with something called "Shooting to the Right". Originally it was supposed to help with noise, but I'm not convinced it does anything for digital noise. It does, however, make an interesting difference pre-post versus post... uh post.

Shooting to the right essentially means slowing the shutter down to move your histogram to the right. This slightly (or significantly if you go too far) overexposes your picture, but grabs more detail in the shadows. If you push it too far, however, you risk blowing out your highlights.

My test was with a very highly contrasted image on a very bright day with very hard shadows. I figured that would really push the shadow vs. highlight gaps to the limit.

Take from this what you will! :)

Berry-licious

Berry-licious

Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL

Not sure if they taste good or not. I'm guesing they're pretty bitter.

While waiting for the others I stepped on the side of the pathways for a smoke and spotted this rather odd looking plant. Took a couple pictures and decided I liked this one well enough to share it. Hope you like it!

Oh, and if you know what kind of plant this is, please let me know.

I dunno...

I dunno...

I'm just not sure about this one... I had the vision and idea in my mind, but I'm not sure it translated right.

Rather than going into what I think is wrong with it, and biasing any feedback, please, let me know what you'd do differently (if anything).

Thanks!

Sunbathing

Sunbathing

Morton Arboretum in Lisle IL

----------------------------

It's hot, don't you see?
My wings are tired,
and it's far to that tree.

Here I'm lit by sun,
there it'd be cool shade.
If only I could just run.

Alas I suppose,
I will remain here,
and for you pose.

For it's hot... don't you see?

Crisp as a Lily

Crisp as a Lily

Morton Arboretum in Lisle IL

--------------------------

Above you spot the beauty, but below do you spy the trap?

In the shadow, just out of site, I wait to strike the killing blow.

My eyes, you shall not see.
My mouth, you shall not see.
My arms, my legs, even my body,
you shall not see.

You will, however, as you look for food in my delicate white lure, feel my tongue mere moments before all goes dark.

Then nothing, you shall see.
