I got sent a link to this call for submissions for one of those Index Books: what happens is you send your typefaces, they decide which ones to pick and put them in the book. They make money from the book, of course, but you get a copy for free (which doesn’t strike like a particularly good deal to me, but whatever). Apparently they are also going to commercialise the typefaces on a CD with the book, but they’ll become “royalty free”, or something.

But that’s not why I’m writing this. I’m writing because on the very same page where they encourage you to send them your typefaces, they put these two links to download ?£$%& versions of FontLab, a popular typeface creation software!

Even if it were legit, even if they had a deal with FontLab it would be pretty awkward to provide demo versions with a serial number, methinks.

Update: I wrote the guy and the links to the software are now gone.
