YouTube updated their video interface today. While it looks nice the interaction design is poorly thought through.

The buttons for share, playlist, and flag buttons each act as a tab and open screen area to provide more options. The favorite button marks the item as a favorite. The buttons should have the same interaction, which seems to lead to open for more options. Marking the item as a favorite does not have options and most likely should be a check box or other interaction pattern, just like the "Rate" area is its own design pattern that maps to its interaction type. We had exactly this scenario on a project last year, where a client insisted on grouping a button with some tabs. We ended up making it into a tab which contained just one button, so although it wasn't a good user experience at least it didn't break.
That was just one of many times that they ignored our recommendations.
I believe we went on to fire them.
