Vote

Vote by Vaguely Artistic.
I just came back from voting, and had an interesting experience.

My polling place is in the community room of a nearby church. As I was waiting to sign in, I scanned the long bulletin board that was directly behind the check-in tables. I was shocked -- outraged really -- to see a large sign that said "VOTE YES ON 73 - PROTECT OUR DAUGHTERS." (Prop. 73 would change the state constitution to require health care providers to notify the parents of young women under the age of 18 before providing abortion services.)

When I got to the tables, I pointed to the signed I asked the poll workers if that was really legal to have a sign like that in a polling place. The three workers turned around and when they saw the sign they freaked. "Oh my God! That's electioneering!" yelled one of the women. Uh, yeah it is. They took the sign down immediately and apologized.

Now, it doesn't matter if I agree with the sign or not. It's just so fundamentally wrong, and while the church has every right to it's opinions, if they are going to tamper with the election process in any way they can take their tax-exempt status and...well, anyway, I was just glad I went in first thing in the morning so the sign wasn't up all day long.

I urge everyone to go vote today. It's all we've got.
