Until tonight, I was pretty sure I'd never photograph a luna moth. It was on a short list of things I'd decided if I ever did photograph, I'd have to just retire the digicam ;-).
I had the mercury vapor lamp and the white sheet out, and this fella was hiding between the sheet and the shed door - I didn't find him until after I was breaking down the setup for the night.

The luna moth is beautiful and exceptionally rare. The last time I saw one was on my great uncle's farm high on a hill in Forkston, PA overlooking the Susquehanna River. That was over 50 years ago.
