A Walk in the Woods
Sugar Maple forest -- Linnae Woods. Only 200 years ago, Native American Indians tapped these trees in order to boil down the sap and make maple sugar & syrup.

Whitetail Woods
I love this composition. Someday I hope to start painting on canvas again.
You do see him don't you?
Sometimes I am sooo frustrated that I do not have an SLR with a telephoto lens. but then, when I get a shot like this I realize...its not about the wildlife ...but the entire environment of nature itself.
I cannot be compelled to do closeups of magnificent beasts ...because the limitations of the camera challenges me-- no, forces me otherwise.
Most of the time photography of whitetail bucks is about them being trophys....something to kill and mount on the wall. Antlers to be measured carefully and try for the Boone & Crockett record books.
But photographing deer in their environment is what I like to do. Its a complete environment where everything is in perfect companionship to one another. Thus, the deer complements the trees, and the scrubby golden brush softens the visual effects of the bright colored leaves and spikey autumnal branches.
To me, having this buck surrounded in his world makes more sense then a close up shot of how big/ how many points his antlers have. What do you think?

Color Splash
The ground holds as much interest as the trees.

Late October
I believe this is invasive barberry but its incredibly beautiful (only in autumn) isn't it. A lot of invasive species are lovely ...and they were introduced for very specific reasons. this creates such a thorny sharp thicket, it becomes a sort of living fence/ barricade .
