John MacLauchlan's 'John Brown's Body' front cover, 1972.

When John Davies, the Tory governments Secretary of Trade and Industry, determined the Shipyards as a ‘Lame Duck’ industry, and the leaked 1969 ‘Ridley Memorandum’ recommended a government ‘butcher’ be set on the UCS, the Shipyards and the men who worked them were put into disarray.

This image is the front cover of John MacLauchlan’s "John Brown's Body; A Brief Synopsis of the Origins of the UCS work-in" (1972), which contains numerous extracts of vital documents such as the Ridley Report.
