Women: take your space within constitution
On International Women’s Day, the possibility of peace is being celebrated but there is also a call for the meaningful participation of women in the process and a closing of the gender gap in the war-torn country. At a panel discussion in Juba, 400 students and other guests gathered at the Catholic University to discuss how women can help ensure that peace prevails in the world’s youngest nation. Women were also urged to take action in the fight for equality. “You should just stand up for your rights. It is something that is yours, so you have to go get them,” urged university student, Mary Faida.
UNMISS Police Commissioner, Unaisi Vuniwaqa, told the audience that the empowerment of women benefits, not only women and girls, but the whole community. “Let us make every day Women’s Day, which means we make women’s day a lifestyle.”
