Working with the Kengo Kuma Lab, PennDesign Ph.D. fellow Ariel Genadt created The Green Tea Pavilion on the University of Tokyo campus using wood, bamboo, natural-fiber rope and paper.

Comprised of 8 arches of varying heights, the structures were made of all renewable materials: wood, bamboo, natural fiber rope and paper. The pavilion was assembled using dry joints, without nails or glue.

The experimental structure’s style is a reinterpretation of traditional Japanese and French construction methods. The structure was on display from August 10-12, 2012 in front of the University of Tokyo’s Graduate School of Engineering.
