Thursdays are quickly becoming the busiest days. Even so, there are quiet moments, sweet little pockets in the day.

I haven't been going to bed because my cough keeps me awake and is worse when I lay down. I was planning to skip my homework this week, but ended up doing it last night between 2 and 3am. When I handed it in today, I realized it was really rambling. Oh, well. Hopefully my teacher can get through it.

I'm so grateful, as I've been saying a lot lately, for really good, sustaining friendships.

They say it might snow tomorrow. I hope it does.

I felt like I wasted this day, until the late afternoon at the pool where I felt present with my children and so content. Even though I have worked on it for more than five years, being alive in the moment is still a day by day, minute by minute challenge. I guess that is how the work of life is. If it were so easy, then it would never be necessary to be conscious of it.

Such a gray, gray day. We waited all morning for Marlo to come, but I realized later I had the date wrong. We ended up inviting friends over for an impromptu dinner. I made meatloaf, they brought baked potatoes. Listen, there is nothing like a friend like that. We've been doing this every so often, and it makes all the difference.

My sister came over and spent the day. Soup and rustic bread for lunch. We finally figured out what was wrong with James's carseat installation. (Thank goodness!) She sat in the room while I taught cello lessons and made suggestions to my students. It was fun, like team teaching. We see each other often, but rarely talk about music anymore. It was like a time machine back to our teens, as young, talented, driven musicians. So fun.

James was an angel for a second day in a row. Is it really the changes at bedtime that's doing it?

I don't care if it's the third picture in a week of my tulips.

I stayed home sick from church, all by myself, for the first time in I don't know how long. Years.

He was beautifully behaved all day. I don't want to do too much back-patting, but I thought maybe the extra effort at bedtime the night before might've helped.

He even said, "I guess today was the day my life got better."
