You may have noticed I'm not "unbridled expression (tm)" now. here's why.

I read the "here's why" and agree... but I don't understand why you dropped your old moniker. Was it for honesty and directness? Or because you felt the name was becoming a brand?

In any case, thanks for the links. I've got the "ad-free blog" button on my own photoblog now. I'm really bothered by the way ads are being taken for granted and allowed to become part of the scenery everywhere we go. (See my cynical remark about VidStone as evidence.)

People are just allowing ads to be attached to everything we see and do, and it doesn't seem to ever reach a point where people finally just stand up en masse and say "enough's enough" to it all. Is there any point at which there's a widespread sense of outrage about it?

When people sell ads on themselves or offer up their baby to be named after some brand you know that we have accepted this too much in our culture. I want more out of my culture. I demand more.

@DaveWard: Thanks for your insightful comment. I dropped it because I was using the (tm) because I wanted Unbridled Expression to be a brand. I no longer do. In fact, I want my work to have MY name on it, not a "company" name even if it is the name of my company. I like the name, I just don't want to be self-consciously trademarky about it.

Your comment is funny. UGH to the whole concept of vidstone! Yay for adfree living!

@KWN (is that a brand?): Has that happened? Please say that hasn't happened. I demand more too. It's time to make a difference, eh?

Ohmygod...this is right up my alley these days. I watched the documentary "The Corporation" several months ago and I swear it changed my life...it gave voice to so, so many things that had been bothering me about our "corporate" culture. As a freelance writer, I have been struggling with pursuing my art in the creative sense and the reality of having to make a living by writing for corporations and well, writing BS. This last year I have veered more into technical writing because I just can't stand doing the marketing crap anymore. And if I lived my life the way I wanted to, I would be writing novels or something and would not be involved in the corporate sector AT ALL.

Anyway...too much information, I know. It's just you struck a chord with me, and thank you for that. :-)

@Infinite Ache: Never too much information. Our stories are what connect to us to one other. Thank you for sharing yours.

I think art vs. commerce is something many artists struggle with. I have a friend who has a lot of success in his chosen field and a lot of respect as an artist but sometimes has to pay the bills doing work to sell products. I think he feels like it's a "dirty little secret" which makes me sad. I believe there is a way to do what we love and pay our bills without compromising our integrity and I think it's a process. It will happen over time as we live the questions.

I hope we can continue to strike chords within each other so that we can move past all of this and co-create a world with integrity. If we continue to have these conversations with each other and ourselves, we will do just that. :-)

@UE Man sells ads on his body (happened more than one time to my recollection). One of the instances of a child being named after a company after winning bid here.

If Goldenpalace is involved there is an indicator of something wrong.

I totally agree with the words in the "here's why" link. What else can I say? Light to you, my dear.
