Abhimanyue first brought him to my attention. i fell in love with his self portrait. it's a miserable copy but i had fun. this one was done before the jabbar one a couple of nights back

This is one of my favourites by Luien Freud ! Its actualy done in oils and quite quite thick it comes off the canvas.. so much psyology comes into play in his work. Its always good to try and do pastiches.. just to get the feel of how hard the artist had to work to do the portait.

I loved his self portrait too. Very forceful and with so much depth. I was using poster colors ( gouache ) at the time and decided to try it out. I had fun making this. Several layers were required but I didnt stay with it for that long. I was on my make one piece every night before sleeping and would spend about an hour at night working either with pastels or poster colors. Oil would've been too messy in bed :D thanks for hunting out the link. It brought back all that I'd felt when I first saw it. thanks again.
