A man in a traditional workman's uniform selling a firely blend of different spices. I was surprised to find his stand of Shichimi, literally seven flavors, at the Sanja-matsuri festival, where all the other food vendors sold food to eat at the spot, not ingredients to take home. I was fascinated by the burst of reddish colors and the repetition of guord shapes, as well as the sheer traditionality of the small space--it was almost like I slipped back a few hundred years into the Edo period. Asakusa, Tokyo, japan.
