Silver gelatin print of a couple skating on Trout Lake in Vancouver. The man in the photo is identified as HRH Prince Arthur (1850-1942), the Duke of Connaught and third son of Queen Victoria. Alongside his military career, he continued to undertake royal duties beyond, or vaguely associated with, the army; on the return from a posting in India, he again, this time with his wife, toured Canada in 1890, stopping in all major cities across the country. Arthur served as the Governor General of Canada from 1911 to 1916.The collection contains several albums from the Bauer family as well as a diary describing William Bauer's journey from Singapore to B.C. in 1891.
