"Buy to let" sung to the tune of "Boy for sale"

"Buy to let" sung to the tune of "Boy for sale" by tz1_1zt.
One flat,
Buy to let.
It's going cheap.
Only seven guineas.
That -- or thereabouts.

Small flat...
Rather pale...
From lack of capital,
Feed him gruel dinners,
Stop him getting repossessed.

If I should say it wasn't very greedy...
I could not, I'd be telling you a tale.
One flat,
Buy to let.
Come take a peep.
Have you ever seen as
Nice
A flat
For sale.

Thanks.

I had thought that the current occupants were labourers taking advantage of the empty flats. On closer inspection of the photo I see balconey ornaments and large plants. People actually live there!

The building work has stalled to such an extent that I suspect they have run out of money. Although it's sad to think of people living in a building site, I'm struggling to find any sympathy for them. The flat market has resembled Tulip Mania for the last few years.

Thoroughly enjoyed your lyrics. Very interesting, that situation. There are condominiums scheduled to go up by the end of this year across the street from us -- so far all we've seen is large machinery and, once a week or so, some guys yelling at each other. Not a stick of actual building. Evidently the condos *behind* our place have been for sale for several years and are still totally unoccupied. Very interesting.

Perfect addition, man. Awesome photo and thoughts. The building craze here in the Seattle area (the entire Puget Sound region for that matter) just went nuts for years and years with no one stopping to ask "who's going to live there". Landmarks taken down for condominiums that look like everything cookie cutter box-top flat, all of which have retail space on the ground/street level.... which is supposed to be for "community" but inevitably is always filled withe same chain stores... a starbucks, a gymboree day care, and perhaps a fedex shipping store. On and on. And now the bubble has burst.

Pop goes the weasels.

Thanks. Great idea for a group.
I was looking forward to a complete crash in the UK property market, that way I might be able to afford a first home. Sadly the government have propped up the market, nationalised the banks and told them to issue more mortgages.

Update to Evonne's post that you might find amusing. They just now started working on that condo/townhouse complex a couple of weeks ago. Of course, a lot of that has to do with the fact that the site has been under snow for months. :P

As for me, I kept trying to get myself excited about being able to get a house, but I really have no desire to. Funny.

Also, as far as running out of money for a building goes, you should read about our famous hole in the ground: www.tropolism.com/2009/02/chicago_spire_tower _spawns_chi.php

I, for one, am glad for the construction slowdown. As a surprise converted urbanist, I find so many of the suburbs with new houses such a terrific waste of space. I hope the sprawl is slowed for the future as a result of this.

Thanks for the links. I hope they keep those condos modest and don't spoil your outlook.

To be honest, I'm a little excited about them--they're being built with the same "feel" of the surrounding 100+ year old buildings (including Queen Anne towers in two spots) with enough touches of the modern to be classy. They're not those "stick out like an ugly sore thumb" modern buildings in the midst of an old district. There was an open parking lot there before, and to be quite honest, I think they'll round off the area nicely. I just hope they don't drive our rent up. - L
