Tuff Canyon Purple Cactus

These purple cacti are scattered all over Big Bend, intermingled with the more traditional green and brown cacti. I have no idea what makes them purple, but probably some naturally produced pigment in the cactus itself.

I'm a moron and tried to touch a cactus once, one that appeared "soft". Yeah. It wasn't so much "soft" as it was "prickly and stabby".
This is a cactus I would never make the mistake of trying to touch ;)
