Calvin 'n Hobbes Face
Calvin 'n Hobbes Face
Caltrain, Bay Area, California Nikon D70, Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.4-4.5G, UV filter DxO (wb, blur, distorion, ca, vignette. noise) f/4 at 1/60 second, 18mm (27mm), iso 500 ____________________________________________________ I might be giving an OSCON talk again this year. And again they want a mugshot of me. I’ve decided that I don’t like the ones I have so I’m submitting these for them to choose from. There is this one strip of Calvin and Hobbes where Calvin takes a bunch of photos of Hobbes making a a bunch of crazy expressions. The two of them do this all the time to great effect. This series is an attempt to do that. In a strip, Calvin’s dad thinks that all the photos of Hobbes looks the same and refuses to allow him to borrow the camera. He should have bought Calvin a D70 instead. Caitlin took this shot while we were on the train up to celebrate New Years in San Francisco. This time it autofocused on the back of the train so the shot is all blurry. Those of you who have taken Caltrain know how long and boring the ride is. White balance was done in DxO because Flourscent lights really mess up the AWB. ObCalvinAndHobbes: Calvin: Dad, how come old photographs are always black and white? Didn't they have color film back then? Dad: Sure they did. In fact, those old photographs are in color. It's just the world was black and white then. Calvin: Really? Dad: Yep. The world didn't turn color until sometime in the 1930s, and it was pretty grainy color for a while, too. Calvin: That's really weird. Dad: Well, truth is stranger than fiction. Calvin: But then why are old paintings in color?! If their world was black and white, wouldn't artists have painted it that way? Dad: Not necessarily. A lot of great artists were insane. Calvin: But... but how could they have painted in color anyway? Wouldn't their paints have been shades of gray back then? Dad: Of course, but they turned colors like everything else did in the '30s. Calvin: So why didn't old black and white photos turn color too? Dad: Because they were color pictures of black and white, remember? Calvin: The world is a complicated place, Hobbes. Hobbes: Whenever it seem that way, I take a nap in a tree and wait for dinner. Commentstychay

My mom gave me the complete C&H boxed set for Christmas this year. It was all I could do to put it down and help my niece & newphew open their gifts.
My comment to her: "There's probably more wisdom in this collection of comics than in all of the rest of human literature."
