on the pro side:
a day off of work!
fireworks!
family
party
picnic

on the con:
well, that's pretty obvious if you are a peaceable hippychick not to mention hello...America being "discovered"...umm I think there were already people here!

but all in all, I still love being in the USA (and would rather be here than many other places)

so let's celebrate the good...America the Beautiful it is! And love your photo and tribute to July 4th! (mine was just the goofy side of America...Elvis impersonators and human cannonballs...)

What a wonderful image, and I hope you had a good holiday.
I think the patriotism of Americans in general is something to be admired, definitely worthy of celebrating, and my wish to you and yours is that you may be allowed to keep your national identity for a long time to come.
I have for many years now looked on in envy at those countries that can fly their flag high and proud, whose children and grand parents can sing patriotic songs in the streets, and whose governments will do all they can to ensure that national heritage and tradition are kept alive and well.

I'm very concerned about the American national identity and the course our government has taken over the past seven years.
It's a great big world, filled with different cultures and traditions that I think many Americans need to explore and respect. If not, I think they just need to let them be.
Ideally, my hope is that Peace and Justice is Universal. I hope God, no matter how God is chosen to be seen watches over us all...
