lunar eclipse with star

lunar eclipse with star by turfcutter.
I was very disappointed with the pictures i took of the elipse. Far too noisy and the focus seemed off. So, I took 8 shots with varying exposures and stacked them together. This reduced the noise and gave me a view of the sunlit and eclipsed areas at the same time. I am much happier with this one!

Taken from East Boldre in the New Forest.

Especially regarding the fact that you were able to pull it off using the same camera I use!

Thanks for tossing it in the group! :D

This is amazing.. I was also taking eclipse photos but I couldn't get anything like this definition in the picture - I should have thought of using HDR or some other way to combine multiple images.

This is exactly what the eclipse looked like in my telescope from London; its astonishingly hard to capture the correct colors of a lunar eclipse, but this image is perfect.

My last ever comment on Flickr...

absolutely stunnning shot. I also tried to get shots of the eclipse, but failed. Alas, this ALMOST makes up for it.

Wonderful image. U are to be commended!!!!!!

By the way. could you give some aspiring photographers some hints on how you did this shot?

Was a telescope used, or was it a Camera alone shot?

Thanks for the great comments everyone!

This was shot through an 8" dobsonian telescope. 8 shots ranging from 1/100th second to 5 seconds aligned and stacked by hand in photoshop .

I see your no. 26 on Explore at the moment. Congrats. Don't think you've got much chance against the current no. 1 though:
