@paramnesia: There is a lot of speculation, but it's 'official' listed destination is Singapore. Chances are very high that it will most likely end up in Alang, India.

Such a shame it's going for scrap (even if that's speculation).

Most likely Alang, or a similar ship breaking port. Or, like her sister and some other ships on their way to scrap, mysteriously sink while en route. Ships this age are incredibly expensive to maintain. Most ships are built with a planned life of 15 to 20 years. As vessels age, corrosion and other problems increase, as do the severity of the required inspections and surveys. Add to that the cost of fuel (and the INDEPENDENCE was a steam ship) and there really is no reason to keep the ship afloat. Sad? Yes, indeed. I spent quite a bit of time at sea, and I believe that most of the ships that I sailed on are now gone. It is a reality.

Sad. I loved watching this ship (and the sister ship "Constitution" www.simplonpc.co.uk/Constitution.html) come and go in Hawai'i.

If that's the case, then it will likely meet the same fate as the Norway... deja vu once again. Norway ended up in Dubai, before eventually puttering its way secretly over to Alang.

I just read today that NCL is dropping their US flag operation down to one vessel.

I just discovered your pictures. They are amazing, you have a great eye. In fact, you are so good that you seem to make all these pictures look like they were simple to compose and shoot. I only wish that were so because then I would have half a chance of getting something this good!
I agree with you that this old lady is heading for Alang. NCL wants to get rid of any possible competitors for the US flag cruise market in Hawaii and Indy was one of the last possibilities, even if refurbishing her was a long shot. We will be shaving with her soon enough. For now, thanks for these pictures!
