Silversmithing Hammers

Ahhh Hammers. So important and so well loved by an silversmith. A good quality hammer is your best friend. Here you see planishing, chasing, raising, ball peen hammers and a rawhide mallot. I have a few more than this - which is far less than master silversmiths own & use.

Hammers need to have great care taken to not mark their heavy polished steel heads. They can be VERY Expen$ive!

Until I saw my brother's knifesmith shop, I had no idea just how many tools a person may need for this type of work. You've opened my eyes a little more. My brothers are not so shiny as his, plus many of his he's had to make out of scraps as he couldn't afford to buy many of them.
