Could be an Eurasian Pygmy Owl (ciuvica) or a Little Owl (cucuvea). It was standing in the road, 5 meters from the car, and it was unfazed by the running engine, the headlights, or by the fact that I got out of the car and started walking towards it. Actually there were several - I passed them by and noticed them by the side of the road and stopped to see whether they were hedgehogs - but no, they were these little owls who only flew away when I got to within 3 meters of them. Very strange to come across this in the middle of the night.

Taken at 11 pm in some fields outside Cluj (in the early stages of the eclipse). Dogs were howling with dark forebodings everywhere. 15 June 2011.

Lunar eclipse in its early stages, June 15, 11 pm, seen from fields outside Cluj. The dark spot on the left slowly covered the whole orb, until the moon was no more.
