I'm Not Sure by trykemom

I'm Not Sure

I don't know smaller birds well but they are also arriving for the winter. This is the post of an old Wood Duck box.

Belted Kingfisher by trykemom

Belted Kingfisher

This is the first photo I've gotten of a kingfisher that wasn't just tail feathers so I'm excited. Plus I've never seen one in this area. I wish it was closer of course, this is cropped. But my feet sank in the mud and made that sucking/slurp sound when I pulled them up and I decided in might be a good idea not to go any closer. It is fun to watch how they hoover in the sky before diving though.

I'm finally getting back on flickr. Yahoo decided I was too young to have an account. Pretty funny actually. I will try to catch up.

Little Blue Heron by trykemom

Little Blue Heron

Little Blue Herons are white for the first year of their life. Really white. While I can get the right exposure on the bird, it is difficult to get detail in the feathers.

Two Women, The Ethiopians by trykemom

Two Women, The Ethiopians

This is first a big thank you to those who gave me criticisms and ideas on this. Susan for letting me know I needed to do more work and to Wolfgang, Jeanette, and Julie for ideas and support and the time to let me know how I was doing. Jeanette writes very insightful critiques even to what cannot be fixed here. It is nice to know for the next time. Julie lent was very supportive. Wolfgang took the time to process the shot to show me how it could look and head me in the right direction.

As I entered the restaurant for lunch, The owner sent me back out side to photograph this art piece her daughter had among her work at the art show out on the grass by the lake. Wanting to eat, out I went into the worse light of the day, into the crowds and art booths jumbled together and art show police who think no one should bring a camera within a mile of any art. I had the artist move her work to the ground inside the booth hoping it would look like the women were going to market. We rearranged some background and, as the artist told her mother later, "She laid on the ground to take the photos" As this was a busy booth and I was right in the way of sales, I took maybe ten photos tops.

They love the photos and the artist graciously gave me permission to show them.

And I got to eat lunch.

Oh, I should mention that the people that helped me and myself are all members of a group here on Flickr devoted to post processing. So Wolfgang helped my by explaining what he did in the program Gimp which I used in Paint Shop Pro. Jeanette and Susan both work In Photo Shop. Pretty much if it can be explained in one program, the same thing can be done in the others.
