Otter Youngster.....Viera

Otter Youngster.....Viera

When Michael and I saw the otter family it was at a much greater distance. They were playing all over a tree stump.....chasing each other and sunning on the cool day. This one was all dry so you can see its baby spots.

Viera Wetlands Otter

Viera Wetlands Otter

I saw a mom with 2 youngsters swimming and hurried over to where I thought they might come up the bank. They popped up immediately right smack in front me. Wish I had been able to get the shot of all 3....it wound up being much closer than I expected.

Ducks of MINWR....American Wigeons

Ducks of MINWR....American Wigeons

This is really far out (and heavily cropped)....the Wigeons were very shy. The one on the far right has me a little puzzled. It had very bright yellow on the head which at first I attributed to the sun angle....but in all the shots I have of it you can see the yellow. I didn't see any other Wigeon with the bright yellow....as you can see in the other males and females in this shot. Maybe a breeding plumage? Thanks for any knowledge/opinion that anyone can share as my experience identifying ducks is limited. Maybe someone else saw it in their images or we can look out for it if it's anything unique. I was hoping for a better shot but this whole group flew when the loud vans pulled up.

Always Watching....Ducks of MINWR

Always Watching....Ducks of MINWR

I had a perfect spot shielded by a large bush as this Pintail pair and an American Wigeon were headed in my direction....so excited they were coming close enough for a sharp shot. Of course, 2 vans pulled up with music blaring and doors wide open with the occupants screaming "Where's the alligator?" I had a similar look on my face as the female Pintail....lol (After seeing Hank Halseys gorgeous Pintails yesterday and reading of his similar tourist adventures, I guess it just goes with the territory)
