Day 91: Do Me a Flava, Will Ya? by Angela..

Tonight my Aunt Nay died after an horrendous battle with emphysema. She was stubborn, stylish, funny, and the best and most prolific crocheter and knitter I've ever known. When she wanted me to do something for her she'd say "do me a flava" instead of "do me a favor". I'm absolutely crushed. I'm really glad I was there with her in the end. Hopefully that made it less scary for her. I miss her so much already.

Please, if you smoke, just stop it already. It's the most fucking horrible thing you can do to yourself and the people around you. You'd be doing us all a flava if you quit.

Angela, I'm so sorry. She looks and sounds like an awesome lady. My favorite uncle died of lung cancer in 2001 - before that he'd suffered from emphysema. It's terrible and heartbreaking. My mom quit then, and hasn't smoked for 7 years.

Sorry for your loss..I myself once was a smoker. I quitted 17 years ago when Spike came to live with me. He hated the smell. He saved my life.

Thank you everybody. I'm so glad many of you have quit smoking. My mom (who is one year older than my aunt pictured here) got hypnotized to stop smoking when I was fifteen -- it's been twenty years now. We still celebrate the anniversary every year.

I am so sorry for your loss I see a wonderful and most likely a real caricature. I know it was a comfort for her that you were there. I know it will help you in the days weeks and months ahead. Keep her memory alive and well keep her many knitted and crocheted items around and please pick up where she has left off and ask people to do you a "FLAVA" It is the day and season of Resurrections Peace to you and her.
