"The Leaning Tower (the bell tower of the Cathedral) has always leaned because it is built on sandy soil. It was started in 1173 and after 8 storeys were built it began to subside. Building went on for another 180 years with successive architects trying to compensate for the lean. Between 1990, when the tower was leaning 4.5 metres from the upright (almost its limit), and 2001 major work was done to stabilize the structure and its foundations." - Anonymous
It is very difficult to take a photo of this marvelous structure without people as this is the most visited tourist spot in Pisa.
