The Urbanaut vol.2 - The Sounds, The Smells...
The latest urbanaut, which you can find @ www.torontoist.com every fortnight.
You might notice that this new series is in more of a traditional comic strip format, compared to the post-cards from last year. Having more panels to work with gives me room to breathe, but I'll be going back and forth and doing different stuff all the time.
I'm having a lot of fun just playing around with comics and in the future, and I'm planning on experimenting more!

a neat thing
Exciting!
If you pick up this month's issue of Juxtapoz (#103), you can find a little artist profile about me!
Here's the little blurb I wrote, which I kind of agonized over because that sort of thing makes me nervous:
"Maybe it's my daily caffeine intake or I was just born like this, but I think about things a lot.
My mind buzzes with a million thoughts, stuff like love, taxes, or lunch, sometimes to the point of incapacitation. Art is a kind of meditation for me, where I take all that chaos and distill it into images.
When I've got a pencil and paper, it's one of the few places where I feel I can calm my brain and heart.
Even though I draw weird monsters and such, I feel like my works are deeply personal, even embarrassingly so. I'm always happy to learn that viewers find something in an image that they can connect with, even if a piece might be obscurely personal.
I hope it speaks to something universal for everyone."

The Urbanaut vol. 2 - Second Home
In the middle panel, you can see all the things Gleebax misses about Toronto. I thought it'd be funny if all he missed was pigeons, the TTC, old people and junk food.
That's poutine in the middle (french fries, gravy and cheese curds), which is more a Quebec thing, but we like it here too!

The Urbanaut vol. 2 - Going Home
Some of you might remember the comic strip I was running at www.torontoist.com last summer, The Urbanaut. I had to leave it in the fall, other obligations, running out of inspirado, and also just that feeling like i wasn't giving it the time it deserved.
Luckily things are better now and David over at Torontoist didn't forget about the little alien Gleebax and invited me to come back, and here we are!
