Dang, it really does look like a postcard! Very cool! Was there an AF or Air Guard unit there at Tyler? I was wondering since they have the Phanton, the Aardvark, and the Starfighter there.

Thanks. I'm not really familiar with the Tyler Pounds airport, so I did a cursory search but couldn't find much historical information. This was the airline terminal from the 1940's until last year, when the city built a new one. This now houses the Historic Aviation Memorial Museum. Their website doesn't mention anything about military activity, past or present, at this airport.

Anyone could obtain military surplus aircraft for display purposes if they had a place to put them. Nowadays, they all get chopped up or made into drones...

Your right, planephotoman, too much good stuff has been destroyed. Hopefully with more appreciation for these things, this rate of attrition will slow down.
