Any library may have areas they need to be quiet zones but this type of signage is simply awful. Yes, Alan, I would agree that the tone of this sign is a disgrace.
I have since talked to the director of the library involved and he has informed me that the library is active in discussions regarding changing the policy to something less restrictive.

Thanks for the sharp eye.

Would we agree that any library that takes that stance, in that tone, is a disgrace to the library community? Why continue to beat around the bush?

Michael - was he aware of this picture, the conversation, etc?

Yes. In fact he said he tried to post a comment to your blog but had some trouble doing so. E-mail me directly if you'd like his e-mail address.

Michael - has the policy changed? We had a long discussion about this in class.

I wasn't going to obey until I say the Library Director at the bottom.

Sadly, in Libraryland, patrons need things spelled out to them. Saying it nicely doesn't cut it.
