Channel Master Display

Channel Master Display by TRANSISTOR RADIOS.
Here's something you don't see everyday. A retail display for Channel Master transistor radios. Judging from the atomic age design and colors I'd guess it's from the late 50's or 1960. I do not know which radios were originally displayed but I have selected some of my better Channel Masters to fill up the spaces.

top shelf L to R: 6503, 6509, 6503
bottom shelf: 6501 (Channel Master's 1st transistor, shirtpocket radio)

Channel Master was established in 1949 in Ellenville, New York and manufactured television antennas. They are still in business today under the corporate umbrella of PCT International and still make antennas as well as satellite dishes and digital to analog converters for television.

A very cool piece indeed. I haven't seen many of these.

skipgoforth: Everytime I turn on one of my old radios and tune into 740 AM in Toronto I time travel. They play "oldies" AND many nights each week old time radio dramas and comedies are broadcast. When you hear this stuff through an old radio it is truly the closest thing you can get to time travel.

I like listening to AM radio at night. You never know where your going to tune in. I found The Fan again from New York City.
This is an awesome display. Do you have a museum of these at your house?

Hi Bill, this evening I managed to pick up a station from Detroit and one from Chicago.....(I'm one hour north of Toronto)
My office is full of radios as are two rooms in the basement.
Here are a few older pics

Yes, TR, the long distance fade, static and whine on night time AM radio IS thrilling.
It lends a mystical patina to it's signal that is missing in the flawless clean window of FM.
I remember the late night hours of joy that my little pastel colored transistor radio gave me as a youth as I held it undercovers so as not to disturb the rest of the family, and thrilled to the clear-channel giants like WLS in Chicago, KDKA, in Pittsburg, and KAAY in Little Rock, and of course that rouge monster, XERF in Del Rio, Texas!

Pete, everything you see in this photostream is mine. I work harder at collecting than I do at my "real job".

Great display! It's especially nice because it is Channel Master. They seemed to make the most colorful radios of all...including the desktop or table models. Nice find!
