Austria - Schneebergbahn (ÖBB)
This metre gauge Abt rack railway starts at the popular resort of Puchberg and climbs 1218 metres over 9km up the Schneeberg to an altitude of 1795m. The original motive power for the line, which opened in 1897, still exists in the form of five 0-4-2RT steam locomotives built by Floridsdorf in 1896 and 1900. New diesel trains took over most workings in 1999 and steam now only works occasionally during the summer.

True to form, our visit in 1965 took placing in heavy rain so the pictures are a bit sombre – like the weather!
