BlackBerry Pearl

BlackBerry Pearl by StarrGazr.
My new phone. So far so good. I just need to find a way to sync it with my Macs. At least I seem to have solved the phone troubles and a new MacBook Pro has been ordered. Maybe it is time for things to start working for me again. ;)

Hee..hee...Just wait until the MacBook comes!! A car, a phone and a computer...all in less than a month?? What?? ;)

Can't lie, I'm loving it. Although the money spending does stress me out.

So far, so good. I would never have bought a different BlackBerry...so I was very surprised that I bought it. I don't need it for business, so I guess the answer is -- yes.

Hmm, it's not a flip phone so the keyboard/screen are not protected when not in use and what was your first line?
"I just need to find a way to sync it with my Macs."?!
If you cant do that then why get it?
What is it exactly that you dont like about Motos, not in general but the 3Vi in particular which looks pretty neat to me, syncs with iSync ok; so the camera sucks but if I want to take photos I use
guess what
a real camera.

abriwin, Blackberry has taken ownership of PocketMac and now distributes it freely to Mac uses who want to sync with their computers. It works like a charm!

What I hate about the Motos is that they feel, act and work like a Windoze machine. I don't do Windoze so why would I want to on my phone? Their menus and user interface are counterintuitive. One of the reasons I love Macs is they work exactly how I want them to. I expect the same level of user friendly technology from all my gadgets. (Plus their interface is ugly!)

Thanks Cybernetik! I like it! :D

I just read the specifications here: www.gsmarena.com/blackberry_pearl_8100-1701.p hp. I always wanted to own a Blackberry and write software for it. I think I will be getting this phone around the end of the year. The features seem to be awesome although I will miss a few things from my current phone: FM Radio, MP3 support, Infrared, the Look&Feel. But the prospect of owning a Blackberry phone that looks like any other phone (not too large and not business-looking-like) and writing software for it is totally exciting!

@stargazr,
Thanks for the headsup on the Moto guess I'll take a raincheck on it for now. Problem for me is that I am a long time Palm Desktop user and the effort of transferring all my diary and address book in PD seems daunting. Plus, I am really hooked on clamshell phones, my presnt phone is a Sharp GX17 and my PDA is a Clié, the former a clamshell design the latter with integral lid.
I have not looked yet to see if iCal will import data from PDT, I suppose what I really want in an iPhone. Something that has a Mac gui and not a winblows gui.

Cybernetik, I think it would be great if you did. I wouldn't mind beta testing anything you come up with. FM radio is cool in a phone, but the Pearl does have a pretty cool mp3 player. Pair that with a 1GB memory card and you're good to go.

abriwin, I would have put money on the fact that I would never switch from Verizon, never get a BlackBerry and never get a non-clamshell phone. In less than 24 hours (I had to wait until it was released the next day) I made the decision to do all three and I can honestly say I don't regret it. The BlackBerry slips into a nice holster case that when slipped in automatically to the holster, the keylock is automatically enabled. (A feature you can turn off) I love all the little extras and shortcusts that are built into the phone.

I had given up on ever using an organizer because I hate carrying a lot of things, but so far, with this I device, I have been able to have it all in one unit. Perfect for me. :)

I am sure there are shortfals, but I haven't yet found them. I'm still playing.

Very cool!! I have to admit..I'm a live-on-the-edge Early Adopter. I got this the day they released it. Hence the inability to sync with the Mac at first. There was very little support for it the day it was released. There is so much more now.

I just wish I knew how to make my own themes...Perhaps Cyberneticks can give me a heads up on how to do this.

Oh...and the best part is...Instant, all the time, email and I can surf Flickr anywhere anytime -- easily!

I could do these things with my old phone, but the mobile version of Flickr on a very small screen and I had to log into the web interface of my email accounts. This is just like being on a mini-computer.

Yeah, I've had the same crappy old Motorolla phone and same crappy Verizon service for about 2 years now.

I'm seriously tempted to go out and buy one of these and a TMobile data-only plan today.. I only use about 30 voice minutes a month: I'd much rather just pay $0.20 per minute for voice and have unlimited data.

Hi Ian, I just got my first bill and I have my daughter's Sidekick and my BlackBerry on the same bill and I am only spending a tad more than I was spending for my phone alone with Verizon. Not a bad deal. I have had to make a traddeoff in coverage, but it seems to even out. Meaning I don't have coverage in some spots, but I do have coverage in some areas where I didn't have Verizon. It is only frustrating because I knew where my outage spots where with Verizon and I am just learning where the outage spots are with TMobile. Either way, it hasn't been a bad switch at all. In fact, I think it has been very good.

Wow, quick reply :) I'm crunching the numbers at the minute. I'm thinking of a Family Share with my girlfriend. Samsung t509 for her, BB 8100 + data plan for me, $80/month total, with more minutes than we'll use. We're both currently on my family's Verizon share plan, but I'm really itching for inexpensive data plans and phones that don't suck. :)

I'm still looking into the coverage maps.

That is the one that came on the phone. I don't use that one anymore. It is called T*Mobile Zen. I currently use BB Demension Zen.
