Rich's Hobby Town!! Circa early 70's for my best memories of the place. His shop was not only my prime source for the Aurora monster models, but my Airfix soldiers as well.
It was a multi-floored hobby shop and I believe the building was an old church(?). I vaguely remember you had to climb a curved rickety stair to get to this room, which just added to its appeal somehow.

Awesome! But I just noticed all of the "Home Lab" stuff under the counter. Doesn't dispel the "mad scientist" myth at all.

Thanks so much toyranch. I grew up around the corner from Rich's Hobby Town in Pine Brook. I practically lived there when I was a kid. After Rich went out of business it became an old school pinball arcade (this was before video games). The building is still there, it is some sort of restaurant now. Never been there probably never will.

If anyone has any other pictures of Rich's please please please post.

Thanks. I just experienced the same thrill that went up my leg when I first picked up a copy of the pulpish Fantastic Monsters of the Films (which I much preferred to Ackerman's slicker Famous Monsters of Filmland). I got that first dose of addictive fandom at Jimmy's Newsstand in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida back in July of 1963. BTW, I eventually won my very own Master Monster Maker plaque (just like the one appearing on the Monster Korner wall) with a plastic monster model mashup that you can see at my Flickr site: www.flickr.com/photos/broussardish/2702420135 /?editedcomm...
