Coralesque (print candidate)

Coralesque (print candidate) by toxi.
Currently collecting candidates for large scale prints, this is one of them. If you're interested (no obligation) please send a mail to "prints [at] postspectacular.com". I will keep you informed...

It also is the first image I've rendered with Sunflow on an Amazon EC2 instance.

Some render stats:
Triangles: 271436
Max raytrace depth: diffuse x1, reflection x4, refraction x4
Resolution: 2920x3406 (for prints this will be much higher...)
Camera: thinlens with hexagonal bokeh
Rays per sample: 16
Anti-aliasing: 1-256 samples (adaptive)
Render time: 23:32:04.4

About the render time: In hindsight I think the anti-aliasing setting was somewhat OTT and could well be reduced down to 25% or less and so would speed up render time immensely.

The image was rendered using a c1.medium windows instance... Meanwhile I've started building an Ubuntu 64bit image for Sunflow rendering on a more beefy c1.xlarge instance (8 core, 7GB RAM) which is dramatically faster since Sunflow can utilize all 8 CPUs to 100%. I will still add a few little command line tools to the image before making it public.

I liked the non ray traced one better in its aesthetics. I am not sure about the flat shading in this one either. Still cool in it's shape though!
