found object, vintage yarn, silk & cotton threads, audiocassette tape, abalone shells, paua
The found object has a nice story. In September, I went to the beach. On the way home I stopped at a local artist’s studio/gallery/store. It was the kind of place that accumulates anonymous stories through its objects.
The bones of this piece is a strip of bent copper sheet metal. It had these 2 mysterious holes in the middle; I’m not sure why. It was lying amongst a pile of broken costume jewelry spanning several decades worth of forgotten trends.
The paua or abalone shells were a gift from my mother’s travels to New Zealand. These had to be hand drilled and sewn to the bracelet like buttons!
This piece was customized for K. who wanted something similar to the “You’re a Winner” necklace (see photostream). I’m happy that I could get all of her colors in: cool sea glass colors and saturated reds, purples, and black. Vibrant.
Dimensions: 28 x 3 x 1cm
Paua shells: average 30 x 26 x 3mm
