went to Moss End Farm and had another rewarding browse at the small second hand book shop there when I re-discovered this really neat old black and white photo showing

6 very smart and pristine looking nurses sitting down for their studio portrait I wish I knew where - not to mention who and what hospital it was they attended - as on the back of this RPPC not posted were printed the instructions only

which helped me to date this really nice study of 5 nurses and one Matron or Sister ? wearing the slightly darker sleeved uniform as being from the Edwardian Victorian period and from 1904 onwards

On the BBC at the moment is the historical drama Casualty 1907 which uses case notes, ward diaries and memoirs from archives at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, to bring real doctors, nurses and patients from a Victorian London hospital back to life in a world in which life expectancy is just 45, and where one in seven children die by the age of five. Streets are teeming with trouble. Gangland rivalry is rife and fears about terrorism and security are on the increase - Imdb and BBC Press Office - and which these professional looking working women remind me of :D
