Grand Canyon Lightning Reworked
This is a rework of a popular photo of mine
The truth is, I never really liked the old one that much. I was going through a stage of experimenting with HDR and uploaded it one day and ultimately it received quite a bit of attention - picture of the day blogs, prints and it can be licensed through Getty.
So I decided to revisit the RAW file from that day and rework it. There was a ton of luck involved with this photo. Right place at the right time right? I just happened to be taking a photograph of the incoming storm (had yet to be a spike of lightning, just clouds lighting up) when as soon as I pressed my shutter I thought I noticed the sky light up. Of course with my mirror up on my camera I didn't see it in person. So I pressed review and there it was! I had never before photographed lightning before, so catching a spike by luck was, well, very lucky!
The RAW file was pretty dark (because of the dark storm) so I added some exposure - but that's about it...

Monument Valley
Panoramic from Monument Valley from this summer.
This particular evening was not the best for photography as the dust storm from the day before had created a distant haze that meant the detail on the horizon was lost. I have a similar shot from the day before where you can clearly see the mountains in the distance. Would have been nice to catch it here.
The problem with these quick trips is that you have to put up with the weather you are dealt with and while I was only there for two days, I didn't have my ideal conditions that I had in my head. I, of course should not complain at all, as just to see this place is a great pleasure! I just wanted that sun to be at the right level just so the "mittens" were lit up perfectly without being blocked by haze and the clouds. :)
Anyway, enough moaning from me... I do like this shot. It's 4 portrait shots merged together in Photoshop with a bit of contrast added in to make it "pop" a little.
I also added a small watermark (for the first time) as I have seen my pictures on other sites without my permission and without credit.

Bryce Canyon after the sun set
Must view large
Bryce Canyon is a magical place. I said in my last photo that I have never really been happy with photos I have taken on prior trips, and still, even after my last trip, I feel I have nothing that truly stands out from this place. I think I need to hike more into the Hoodoos...
Anyway, it was very dark at this point, so this is a 30 second exposure as F/13 (ISO 100). it brought back the colors my eye could see. One interesting thing to note is that the top right of the shot became much darker during the shutter being open and it really shows in the final exposure

Great Falls National Park
This photo was taken last winter around February before any snow hit. The sky was very moody at this time of the day before the sun fully went down

Love New York
New York City is such an incredible place. I was there last weekend for Photo Plus Expo from PDN but unfortunately had zero time to have a look around. Thankfully I have been to NYC several times so I didn't feel guilty about not going around taking pictures this time... I did snap this one after a late conference of a couple watching the traffic around Times Square...
