Important update and news April 30,
2008:
THE PROBLEM (AND THE EXCUSE) OF
RELOCATING THE ANIMALS IS NOT RELEVANT
ANYMORE: TO-DAY I GOT THE OFFER THAT ALL
THE ANIMALS CAN BE RELOCATED IN THAILAND
TO A BIG CENTER, UNDER CONDITIONS 1000
TIMES BETTER THAN THEY WERE WITH EVEN A
MEDICAL CENTER AND A VET IN FULL
SERVICE. FINANCING THE OPERATION IS NOT
A PROBLEM EITHER!!!!!!!
How You Can Help the Rooftop Animals
It is appalling that Thailand allows
caged animals to be maintained on top of
a department store in what is clearly
still a death-trap. In the event of
another fire, there would be no escape
for the animals and they would die
horrible deaths. Further the living
conditions in the Pata Department Store
of the animals are totally unacceptable.
Please send letters to the Thai
officials requesting that Thailand ban
the keeping of wildlife in substandard
facilities, especially in situations
such as the top floors of high-rise
buildings. The addresses can be found at

Born To Be Wild: In the heart of the
sprawling, chokingly polluted city of
Bangkok, there is an appalling zoo on
top of the Pata department store. I had
visited this horrific place years ago,
but asked another friend to check it out
for me this August. It really is a wild
animals worst possible nightmare. For
most people it is extremely upsetting.
What follows is the report I received
"The cruel wild beast is not
behind the bars of the cage. He stands
in front of it."
(Axel Munthe)
Here an extract from the “Expedition
Report 2000”:
“IN THE COILS OF THE NAGA”
by
Richard Freeman
"On the roof of the building the
mammals and birds are kept in truly
appalling conditions. I am an ardent
supporter of responsible zoos with good
breeding programmes - they are vital to
save many endangered species. But
slapdash holes like Pata zoo belong in
the dark ages." CONTINU HERE
This set has been once updated
(contains 68 photos now)
and it is useless I think to make more
photos or it should be on a weekend when
several animals has to behave as a
circus-attraction (you know: dressed
etc.) to attract more visitors. Pata
“zoo” (Pata Zoo Co. Ltd.) is a
“department” of Pata shopping mall and
is only there to draw more clients to
the mall; when a Thai family visits the
“zoo” they go down afterwards and are
buying and, at least, eating something.
As the mall is mainly for locals who
know nothing about the modern
zoo-standards and for who is a zoo a zoo
and that means animals behind bars:
“they are treated, fed and cared for
well so what’s the problem”? Foreigners
are visiting this mall rarely so the
objections are not that big
unfortunately.
The naked fact at the moment is that
everybody who rejects this “zoo” has
been blocked by weak and insufficient
Thai laws.
You can read about this in my mentioned
blog and you can find one page with
addresses where the world can leave
complaints. I (we) need this help from
abroad because, for example, the Thai
Tourist Board is very conscious to loose
tourism. The more worldwide complaints
are coming to the authorities the better
as I said before we, in Thailand, has
been blocked by the arrogance of the
management and the weak laws.
I hope you, family, friends,
colleagues, acquaintances and newspapers
are willing and able to do something.
Also the international animal-protection
organizations are important: their voice
can be strong!
Thanks for visiting my album. My WEBlog with more details.

Ghandi
"This is such a shocking and
unpalatable fact that most people deny
it, or they just don't want to think
about it. They believe as individuals,
they can do little about it, so push it
to the back of their minds. But I can't
do that.
When something has to be done, we need
to do it. It doesn't matter how big the
challenge is or how hard the solution;
if I know something is wrong, and I am
in a position to help, I will do my best
to make it right."
