The Last Sunset
And thy life be as sweet, and its last sunset sky
Golden-tinted and fair as thy own Pumpkin pie!
From The Pumpkin by John Greenleaf Whittier (1807 - 1892)
The last sunset of 2009 descends over Kapiti Island, NZ

Flight Into Night
Swiftly walk o'er the western wave,
Spirit of Night!
Out of the misty eastern cave,
Where, all the long and lone daylight,
Thou wovest dreams of joy and fear,
Which make thee terrible and dear,—
Swift be thy flight!
From To Night by Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822)

Drift III
Southward, forever southward,
They drift through dark and day;
And like a dream, in the Gulf-Stream
Sinking, vanish all away.
From Sir Humphrey Gilbert by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807 - 1882)

Shine
Warm summer sun,
Shine kindly here,
Warm southern wind,
Blow softly here.
Green sod above,
Lie light, lie light.
Good night, dear heart,
Good night, good night.
Warm Summer Sun by Mark Twain (1835 - 1910)

Glory
Glory be to God for dappled things –
For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow;
For rose-moles all in stipple upon trout that swim;
Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls; finches’ wings;
Landscape plotted and pieced – fold, fallow, and plough;
And áll trádes, their gear and tackle and trim.
All things counter, original, spare, strange;
Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?)
With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim;
He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change:
Praise him.
Pied Beauty by Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844 - 1889)
